What Udyam Registration is
Udyam Registration is how an enterprise is recorded as a micro, small or medium enterprise (MSME) with the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. The enterprise is called an Udyam. On registering it receives a permanent registration number and an online certificate with a dynamic QR code, through which a page on the portal shows the enterprise's details. The portal states that there is no need to renew it.
The registration is free, paperless and based on self-declaration. The portal says no documents or proof are uploaded and that an Aadhaar number is enough to register. Its system is integrated with the Income Tax and GST systems, so the investment and turnover details tied to your PAN and GSTIN are taken automatically from government databases.
udyamregistration.gov.in is the government's own portal for this. The portal states that, apart from itself and the government's single-window systems, no private online or offline system, agency or person is authorised to do MSME registration. Because registration costs nothing, anyone who charges for it is not acting for the government.
Udyam limits: micro, small and medium enterprises
An enterprise is micro, small or medium when its investment in plant and machinery or equipment does not exceed the limit and its turnover does not exceed the limit. The limits were raised from 1 April 2025 (Ministry of MSME notification S.O. 1364(E), 21 March 2025).

Who can register for Udyam Registration?
- The enterprise's investment and turnover must be within the limits in the table above, which decide whether it is micro, small or medium.
- You need an Aadhaar number. The portal says an Aadhaar number is enough to register; no documents are uploaded.
- A PAN, and a GSTIN where GST applies to the enterprise, are required for Udyam Registration from 1 April 2021 (Ministry of MSME notification S.O. 1055(E), 5 March 2021).
- An enterprise can hold only one Udyam Registration. Any number of activities, manufacturing, service or both, can be listed under that one registration.
- If you hold an Udyog Aadhaar (UAM), EM-II or any other registration issued by an authority under the Ministry of MSME, you must register again on the Udyam portal.

Open the official portal
Go to udyamregistration.gov.in. Registration is free: the portal says no cost or fee is to be paid to anyone, and no private agent is authorised to register you.
Choose a new registration
Start a new Udyam Registration. If you hold an Udyog Aadhaar or EM-II registration, register again here; the old one does not carry over.
Fill in the registration form
The portal needs your Aadhaar number, and the enterprise's PAN and GSTIN where they apply. Investment and turnover details are fetched from the Income Tax and GST systems, and the registration rests on your own declaration. No documents are uploaded.
Submit and receive your Udyam number
Once registration is complete you receive a permanent Udyam Registration Number, and the certificate is issued online.
Print your certificate
Log in to the portal to print the certificate. It carries a dynamic QR code and does not need renewal.
