What is the 8th Pay Commission?
The Eighth Central Pay Commission reviews the pay, allowances and pension of central government employees and pensioners. The Government appointed it by a resolution published in the Gazette on 3 November 2025, with Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai as Chairperson, and gave it 18 months to make its recommendations.
It has not yet reported. No fitment factor, minimum pay or pay matrix has been announced. The only official word on timing is the Government's remark, when it approved the terms of reference, that going by past trends the recommendations would normally be expected to take effect from 1 January 2026.

How is 8th Pay Commission calculated?
On the 7th Pay Commission's method, revised basic pay = existing basic pay × fitment factor, rounded to the nearest rupee. The 7th Pay Commission applied a factor of 2.57 at every level. The 8th Pay Commission has not announced a factor, so this calculator takes it as your assumption and compares the result with your current basic pay, and with basic pay plus dearness allowance.
8th Pay Commission example: Level 1 basic pay ₹18,000
Level 1 of the 7th CPC pay matrix starts at ₹18,000. With DA at 60%, that employee now draws ₹28,800 of basic pay plus DA.
If the 8th Pay Commission used the 7th's fitment factor of 2.57, revised basic pay would be ₹18,000 × 2.57 = ₹46,260. At a factor of 2, it would be ₹36,000.
Both factors are assumptions for illustration. Until the Commission reports and the Government accepts its recommendations, no revised pay is known.
