Who is eligible for Gruha Lakshmi?
- You must be a woman, and your family must live in Karnataka.
- You must be named as the head of the family on your ration card — Antyodaya, BPL or APL all qualify.
- The ration card must be one issued by the Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Department.
- Gender minorities are eligible: the benefit was extended to them by administrative approval dated 18 July 2023.
- You need a bank account for the transfer. An Aadhaar-linked account is paid by DBT; an account without Aadhaar linking is paid by RTGS.
Who is not eligible for Gruha Lakshmi?
These exclusions are as important as the eligibility rules — an application that falls into any of the categories below will be rejected or the benefit later recovered.
- The head of the family, or the husband of the head of the family, pays income tax.
- The head of the family, or the husband of the head of the family, files GST returns.
- The ration card names a man as the head of the household.
Which documents are required for Gruha Lakshmi?
- The ration card, showing you as the head of the family
- Your Aadhaar card
- Bank passbook for an Aadhaar-linked account — or your RTGS details if the account is not linked to Aadhaar
- Proof that you live in Karnataka
- An income certificate, where one is asked for
- A self-declaration confirming that you are the head of the household
- Your husband's death certificate, for a widow applying as head of the family
How do you apply for Gruha Lakshmi?
Register free — at a centre or on the portal
Registration costs nothing. The department provides it free at Karnataka One, Bangalore One and Grama One centres, and on the Seva Sindhu Guarantee Schemes portal. Anyone asking for a fee is not acting for the government.
Create your login with Aadhaar and a mobile number
On the portal, register using your Aadhaar number and your mobile number, then sign in with the credentials you have just created.
Fill the form and upload the documents
Complete every mandatory field and upload each required document in the format and size the form specifies. Check the details and the uploads before you submit — corrections are easier now than later.
Submit and keep the reference number
Accept the declaration and submit. You get a confirmation and an application reference number; keep it, because it is what you quote when you follow the application up.
There is no deadline
Registration opened on 19 July 2023 and the department states there is no last date. If you were not eligible before — or the head of the family has since changed — you can still register.
Why do Gruha Lakshmi applications get rejected, and how do you fix them?
Most rejections and stuck payments come down to a handful of record mismatches. Find yours below.
- Your husband pays income tax or files GST returns
- This is the exclusion most people miss, because it is not about you. The department disqualifies a household where either the head of the family or her husband is an income tax payer or a GST return filer. If that describes your household, the application will not succeed on appeal — the rule is the scheme's, not the operator's.
- The ration card does not name you as head of the family
- Eligibility is read from the ration card, so being the woman of the house is not enough on its own — the card has to say so. Get the head-of-family entry corrected with the Food and Civil Supplies Department first, then register.
- The head of the family named on the card has died
- The next eligible female member of the household can be registered in her place. Take the death certificate and the ration card to a Karnataka One, Bangalore One or Grama One centre.
- The bank account is not linked to Aadhaar
- This does not disqualify you. An Aadhaar-linked account is paid by DBT, and an account that is not linked is paid by RTGS instead — but the RTGS details have to be on the application, so check that they were entered correctly.
- Someone asked you for money to register
- Registration is free at Karnataka One, Bangalore One, Grama One and on the Seva Sindhu portal. No fee is payable at any stage, and no payment makes an ineligible application succeed.

Frequently asked questions
How much does Gruha Lakshmi pay?
₹2,000 every month, to the woman named as head of the family on the ration card. It goes into an Aadhaar-linked bank account by Direct Benefit Transfer, or by RTGS where the account is not linked to Aadhaar.
Who is eligible for Gruha Lakshmi?
A woman living in Karnataka who is named as the head of the family on an Antyodaya, BPL or APL ration card issued by the Food and Civil Supplies Department. Gender minorities are also eligible, by administrative approval dated 18 July 2023.
Is Gruha Lakshmi only for BPL families?
No. Antyodaya, BPL and APL ration cards all qualify. BPL families are given priority in selection, but an APL card does not by itself make you ineligible.
Why is my Gruha Lakshmi application rejected if my husband pays income tax?
Because the exclusion covers him too. The department's rule is that if the head of the family or the husband of the head of the family is an income tax payer, or files GST returns, the household is not eligible. It is the single condition applicants most often overlook, since it turns on someone else's tax status rather than their own.
Is there a last date to register for Gruha Lakshmi?
No. Registration opened on 19 July 2023 and the department states there is no last date for it. Payments by DBT have been going out since 30 August 2023.
Is there any fee to register for Gruha Lakshmi?
No. The department provides registration free at Karnataka One, Bangalore One and Grama One centres and on the Seva Sindhu portal. Anyone charging you for it is not acting for the government.
What happens to Gruha Lakshmi if the head of the family dies?
The next eligible female member of the household can be registered in her place.
Can I get Gruha Lakshmi without an Aadhaar-linked bank account?
Yes. An Aadhaar-linked account is paid by Direct Benefit Transfer; where the account is not linked to Aadhaar, the money is sent by RTGS instead, so the RTGS details need to be on the application.
