Ladki Bahin e-KYC: the husband-or-father rule, and who is exempt

Quick answer

e-KYC is the Aadhaar authentication the department uses to verify beneficiaries, and a pending e-KYC holds the payment. What most pages leave out: the scheme also asks for the Aadhaar authentication of your husband or father, and there is an official exemption route if he has died or you are divorced.

Not a government website. This page explains the scheme; it does not process applications. Registration on government portals is free — do not pay anyone who offers to get you approved.

What e-KYC is for in this scheme

The Women and Child Development Department uses Aadhaar authentication, done through e-KYC, to verify and authenticate the women who qualify under the scheme. Payment is made by Direct Benefit Transfer to verified beneficiaries, so a record whose e-KYC is still pending is generally held rather than paid.

This is a verification step, not a fresh application. You are not applying again and you should not be asked to pay anything for it.

On the deadline: the most recent circular we could verify is dated 18 November 2025, and it extended e-KYC to 31 December 2025. That date has passed, and we have found no later circular extending it again. Treat any date you see quoted online as unverified — check your own record on the portal and ask your Anganwadi Sevika what currently applies in your district.

How to complete e-KYC on the official portal

e-KYC is done inside your own account on the scheme portal, so you sign in first. It is free.

  1. Sign in at ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in

The applicant login asks for your registered mobile number, your password and a captcha. If the account is locked, or you have forgotten the password, the same screen has links for both.

    Open the official page ↗

  2. Open the e-KYC section

The portal carries an e-KYC page for signed-in beneficiaries. If your record shows e-KYC pending, this is where it is cleared.

  3. Complete the Aadhaar authentication

Authentication is against Aadhaar, so the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar being authenticated has to be reachable for the OTP. Names and dates of birth should match what is on Aadhaar.

  4. Check that the record now shows e-KYC done

Look at your own beneficiary record afterwards rather than assuming. Payment resumes on the department's own cycle once the record is verified.

Why the portal asks about your husband or father

The November 2025 circular is explicit that some beneficiaries could not complete e-KYC because their husband or father had died, and an OTP could no longer be received on his Aadhaar number. That is the clearest official confirmation that the process involves authenticating his Aadhaar as well as your own — which is exactly where most women get stuck.

The department's answer was not to waive the step quietly. It created a documented exemption that runs through the Anganwadi Sevika, and that route is set out below.

If your husband or father has died, or you are divorced

This is the official route in the circular of 18 November 2025. It is the part of the process almost no other page explains.

  1. Complete your own e-KYC first

The circular asks the beneficiary to do her own e-KYC, and only then to claim exemption from doing her husband's or father's.

  2. Give the proof to your Anganwadi Sevika

Submit an attested copy of the official death certificate of your husband or father, or your divorce certificate, or the court order, to the Anganwadi Sevika for your area.

  3. She verifies it and forwards a recommendation

The Anganwadi Sevika checks the certificate and recommends, through the Child Development Project Officer, that you are eligible for exemption from your husband's or father's e-KYC. That recommendation goes to the District Women and Child Development Officer.

  4. The district forwards it to the state

The District Women and Child Development Officer then makes the recommendation to Government through the Commissioner, Women and Child Development. Nothing in this chain costs money.

Which documents the exemption accepts

Attested copies, given to the Anganwadi Sevika:

  • The official death certificate of your husband, if he has died.
  • The official death certificate of your father, if he has died.
  • Your divorce certificate, if you are divorced.
  • The relevant court order, where the position is established by a court rather than a certificate.
Nothing in this process has a fee. No Anganwadi Sevika, CSC operator or agent may charge you for e-KYC, for the exemption, or for restarting a held payment. Anyone asking is not acting for the government.

Frequently asked questions

Why is my Ladki Bahin payment stopped even though I completed my own e-KYC?

Doing your own e-KYC may not be the whole requirement. The department's November 2025 circular shows the process also involves authenticating the Aadhaar of your husband or father, and it created an exemption for women whose husband or father has died or who are divorced. If that is your situation, take the death certificate, divorce certificate or court order to your Anganwadi Sevika, who forwards the exemption through the Child Development Project Officer.

What is the last date for Ladki Bahin e-KYC?

The most recent circular we could verify, dated 18 November 2025, extended it to 31 December 2025. That date has now passed and we have found no later circular extending it. We will not invent a current date — check your own record on the portal and ask your Anganwadi Sevika what applies in your district now.

How do I do Ladki Bahin e-KYC online?

Sign in on ladakibahin.maharashtra.gov.in with your registered mobile number, password and the captcha, then open the e-KYC section and complete the Aadhaar authentication. It is free, and it is done inside your own account rather than on any other website.

The OTP for e-KYC never arrives. What now?

The OTP goes to the mobile number linked to the Aadhaar being authenticated, so it fails when that number is out of use — and, as the circular records, when the person whose Aadhaar it is has died. Get the mobile number updated with UIDAI where that is possible, and use the exemption route through your Anganwadi Sevika where it is not.

Does e-KYC cost anything?

No. Neither the e-KYC nor the exemption has any fee at any step, including the Anganwadi Sevika, the Child Development Project Officer and the district office.
