PM Kisan e-KYC: OTP, face authentication and biometric methods

e-KYC is mandatory for every instalment. There are three official ways to do it — including one that needs no OTP and no fingerprint — and each suits a different situation.

Not a government website. This page explains the process; the official portal at pmkisan.gov.in is where anything is actually done, and it is free to use.

The three official e-KYC methods

All three are free. Pick the one that fits your situation.

Method 1 — OTP e-KYC on the portal

  1. Open the e-KYC option in Farmers Corner

On pmkisan.gov.in, choose e-KYC from Farmers Corner.

    Open the official page ↗

  2. Enter your Aadhaar number

Type the 12-digit Aadhaar number and the captcha, then search.

  3. Verify the OTP

An OTP is sent to the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar. Enter it. The portal confirms e-KYC is successfully submitted.

Method 2 — Face authentication in the app

Added to the PM-KISAN app in June 2023 so that farmers without an Aadhaar-linked mobile could complete e-KYC from home.

  1. Install the official PM-KISAN app

Get it from the Google Play Store. Check the publisher is the Government of India — copycat apps exist.

  2. Log in and choose e-KYC

Log in with your registered mobile number and open the e-KYC option.

  3. Scan your face

Follow the on-screen prompts to scan your face. No OTP and no fingerprint device is needed. You can also complete face e-KYC for other farmers from the same app.

Method 3 — Biometric e-KYC at a CSC

  1. Visit a Common Service Centre or State Seva Kendra

Take your Aadhaar card and your PM-KISAN registration number.

  2. Give your fingerprint

The operator enters your Aadhaar and captures your biometrics on the authorised device. The e-KYC updates against your registration.

Common e-KYC problems and what to do

  • OTP never arrives: your mobile is not linked to Aadhaar. Use face authentication in the app, or biometric e-KYC at a CSC — neither needs the OTP.
  • Aadhaar number shows as not found: the number on your PM-KISAN registration differs from your Aadhaar. Use the correction option in Farmers Corner, or ask the CSC to check the record.
  • e-KYC done but the flag still shows No: allow a few days for the update to reflect, then recheck Know Your Status. If it stays No, contact your district nodal officer.
  • Someone asks for money to do e-KYC: refuse. All three methods are free; CSCs charge only the small notified service fee for biometric services, and the portal and app charge nothing.

Frequently asked questions

Is PM Kisan e-KYC compulsory?

Yes. Every release note states that e-KYC must be complete for the instalment to be paid. Farmers whose e-KYC flag shows No are skipped until it is done.

How do I do PM Kisan e-KYC without an OTP?

Use face authentication in the official PM-KISAN mobile app, which needs neither an OTP nor a fingerprint, or complete biometric e-KYC at a Common Service Centre.

Can I do e-KYC for a family member from my phone?

Yes. The face authentication feature in the PM-KISAN app allows a logged-in user to complete face e-KYC for other farmers as well.

How long does e-KYC take to reflect?

OTP and face e-KYC usually confirm immediately on screen; the flag in Know Your Status can take a few days to update. If it still shows No after that, contact your district nodal officer.
